Feeding Amounts & Instructions

Feed according to the following chart along with free choice salt and fresh, clean water. If you would like to have your horse's diet evaluated to ensure it is balanced for all critical nutrients, please contact your Poulin Grain feed specialist.

Amount to be fed per day:

|Type of Horse | Pounds to feed per 100 lbs body weight| Pounds to feed for a 1000 lb horse|

Senior Horse 1.2-1.5 12-15
Adult Mature Horse- Maintenance 1.4-1.8 14-18
Adult Mature Horse- Carbohydrate Sensitive 1.2-1.6 12-16

Split between a minimum of 2 feedings per day. It is best to split between as many small meals throughout the day as possible, especially for horses without access to additional forage.

For horses that can still properly chew and swallow long stem hay:

Feed 0.5-1 lb of high quality hay per 100 lbs body weight per day, in addition to Senior Low Carb Complete.

For horses with chewing difficulties, or worn or missing teeth:

Senior Low Carb Complete should be soaked in water until softened to a soup like consistency before feeding.

For horses that are aggressive eaters or new to consuming complete feeds:

It is recommended to soak Senior Low Carb Complete in water until softened to a soup like consistency before feeding.

Equine Feeding Guidelines

Divide feed into a minimum of two equal feedings. Never feed more than 0.5 lbs of grain per 100 lbs of body weight in a single feeding.

The amount of grain fed to any horse will vary depending on forage quality and availability in addition to the animal’s weight, body condition, activity level and age.

All dietary changes should be made slowly over a period of 10-14 days.

If your horse has dental problems or trouble swallowing, this product can be soaked in water before feeding.

If feeding less than the daily recommended amount of a concentrated feed, supplement with E-TEC Balancer to meet adequate levels of vitamins and minerals.

If you would like to have your horse’s diet evaluated to ensure it is balanced for all critical nutrients, please contact your Poulin Grain feed specialist.
